“You are what you think about all day long” ~ Dr. Robert Schuller

Quality or Type of thoughts

We can divide these thoughts into 4 categories.

  1. Positive thoughts: These are thoughts related to peace, affirmations, happiness, love and purity.
  2. Negative thoughts: Feelings related to ego, anger, grudge and fear comes into Negative thoughts.
  3. Necessary thoughts: Thoughts related to daily activities and planning comes into necessary thoughts.
  4. Waste thoughts: Even if we have no power on circumstances, we still keep thinking about them. Thoughts about these situations called waste thoughts.

What is your class of thoughts most of the time? As I was listening to a podcast “Happy Living” by BK Shivani, I came to know that most of our thoughts are just waste thoughts.

Thinking about Past:

Thinking about the past is one kind of waste thoughts. Imagine how much time we spent thinking about past events and life. Now you may say that it could be sweet memories of the past. No. There are very few times we think about the sweetness of past.

Most of these thoughts are about the past mistakes or decisions. It is all right to learn from the past but it is totally wastage of time to think about the sad and bad memories of past again and again. It may be hard to believe that 80% of your thoughts are about the past.

Always remember that past has been gone and we cannot change it. Therefore, stop wasting your time that way.

Worrying about the Future:

Another part of waste thoughts is thinking too much about tomorrow. We forget to live in the present while worrying about the future. An average person spent 15% of time thinking too much about future.

What portion of thoughts left for positive, negative and necessary thoughts? It is only 5%.

Thinking about Present:

Only 5% of our thoughts are about present. Let us divide these thoughts into Positive, Negative and Necessary. What do you think that how much of these thoughts are positive. It is just 1 or 2%. Yes. This is the volume of positive thinking of the average human being.

This is the quality of our thoughts and our life. You know very well that our happiness, peace and love purely depend on the positive thoughts. Therefore, it is important to have a healthy thoughts in our mind.

“Positive thinking will let you do everything better than negative thinking will.” ~ Zig Ziglar

How to focus on the Positive Thinking:

If our mind is already full of negative thoughts, it is difficult to feed positivity. First, you need to clear your mind off negative thoughts. Then you need to befriend with positivity. If you change your thoughts, you change your life.

Here, 8 ways to ensure the Positive Thinking in life:

  1. Realize the power of Positive Thoughts
  2. Meditation to clear your mind of Negative Thoughts
  3. Start your day with Positivity
  4. Stop Judging and Criticizing people
  5. No matter what, Smile everyday
  6. Forget and Move On
  7. Rather than React, Rethink and Act
  8. Take control of your life
